Roblox is OFFICIALLY Banned in China!

August 23, 2025
Roblox Characters

Roblox has faced mounting global restrictions, with several countries taking steps to block or ban the platform over child safety and content concerns. In mainland China, Roblox entered the market in December 2020 under the localized name LuoBu, but the platform was shut down in January 2022 and never relaunched, leaving it effectively banned in China despite Roblox’s claim that the shutdown was only for redevelopment. In Turkey, access to Roblox was officially blocked on August 7, 2024, after authorities raised alarms about child exploitation, pointing to over 13,000 incidents in 2023 and at least 24 arrests tied to child abuse and abductions linked to the platform. Roblox responded by promising to work toward restoring service, but the ban remains in place. On August 13, 2025, Qatar banned Roblox, citing growing reports of predatory behavior and inappropriate content, a decision spurred by public outcry and campaigns led by the YouTuber Schlep, who exposed alleged sexual predators on the platform and pressured authorities to act. In the Middle East, Oman has had Roblox blocked since around 2021, with the government citing risks to children’s safety and concerns over its lack of protective measures. Meanwhile, in the United States, Roblox has not been banned but is under intense legal and political pressure: lawsuits such as the one filed in Louisiana accuse the company of exposing minors to harmful and explicit content, while congressional voices like Representative Ro Khanna have criticized Roblox for prioritizing revenue over safety given that nearly 40% of its 82 million daily users are under 12. The backlash has already rattled investors, with Roblox’s stock dropping by more than 10% in 2024 amid growing concerns, and although the U.S. government has not formally demanded changes, regulators and critics are effectively pushing Roblox to improve both its safety systems and its monetization strategy—or risk facing further restrictions.

Roblox is locking down sexual content and access to ‘adult’ locations after lawsuits

August 19, 2025

Roblox is updating its policies prohibiting romantic or sexual content to also forbid “content, settings, or behavior that implies sexual activity”, according to a Friday post from chief safety officer Matt Kaufman. The changes follow recent lawsuits against the company, including one from Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill that alleges the platform creates an environment where “child predators thrive” and claims Roblox has “directly facilitated the widespread sexual exploitation of minors.” In response, Roblox said that “any assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is simply untrue.” Roblox has rolled out many safety-focused features in recent months, including an age estimator tool, parent remote account management, and blocking kids under 13 from social hangout spaces. “Fix it, or shut it down!” Murrill replied. According to Kaufman, in the “coming months,” Roblox will restrict all unrated experiences — previously available to users 13+ — to just the developer and collaborators, unless developers complete a questionnaire to receive a content maturity label. Roblox is also rolling out “new technology to detect violative scenes”, which can automatically take down servers with high volumes of inappropriate behavior. Additionally, social hangout spaces depicting private spaces like bedrooms, bathrooms, or virtual bars and clubs will only be available to ID-verified users 17+, and developers must also verify they are 17+ to create experiences for that age group.

Roblox Updates their Safety Initiatives

August 18, 2025
Roblox Characters

Roblox has recently rolled out a series of safety updates designed to better protect younger players while giving verified teens more freedom. The platform is renaming the traditional Friends list to Connections, with a new tier called Trusted Connections that lets verified teens chat more openly with close contacts under lighter filters while still blocking harmful behavior. For users under 13, Roblox has tightened protections by disabling direct messages outside of games, restricting access to experiences that involve open writing or random socializing, and applying stricter content labels that limit them to only the most minimal or mild content. For older players, Roblox has clarified that swearing is not allowed across the board, but verified users aged 17 and up may encounter strong language in certain experiences, while teens 13–17 can use Trusted Connections for slightly less restrictive chat. To support these changes, Roblox is introducing AI-based age estimation, where users can record a short video selfie for verification; the AI will determine if they appear to be 13 or older, with ID verification or parental consent as backup options, and Roblox states that this biometric data is deleted within 30 days unless law requires otherwise. Altogether, these initiatives reflect Roblox's effort to create a platform that is safe by default, offering stronger protection for children while giving older teens and adults more flexibility.

Roblox Officially Responds To Lawsuit, Chris Hansen & Schelp Step In

August 18, 2025

Roblox has released an official statement regarding the recent lawsuit brought against it by the Louisiana Attorney General, and journalists Chris Hansen and Schelp have begun an investigation into Roblox's child safety protocols. The LA AG Office filed a lawsuit against Roblox earlier this week, alleging the company has failed to put adequate child safety measures into place to protect children from potentially harmful activities.

The lengthy statement made by Roblox does not address the lawsuit directly, reading: "Roblox as a policy does not comment on pending litigation." The message goes on to detail the game's safety precautions, security measures, commitment to preventing illegal activities, and more.

Additionally, it has been reported that Roblox CEO David Baszuki briefly deleted his X account or lost access somehow, but it is now back. Baszuki's latest posts have been heavily scrutinized and were subject to layers of community notes, some of which link to sources that state Roblox actively sent cease and desist orders to content creator Schelp, to allegedly block his child sex crimes investigations into Roblox.

Following the lawsuit and public outcry, the former host of To Catch A Predator and Dateline NBC, Chris Hansen, posted a video on social media in which he states that he, along with his TruBlu team and Schelp, is investigating Roblox for the alleged exploitation of children on the platform. Hansen has stated he has already interviewed law enforcement officers and victims of the alleged child sex crimes.

Roblox Bans Condo Games and Restricts Some games to 17+

August 17, 2025

Roblox has banned all "Condo" games and is restricting "Public Bathroom" and "Public Bedroom" games to verified users 17 and older, citing efforts to improve community safety.

Roblox has officially banned all "Condo" games and is now restricting "Public Bathroom" and "Public Bedroom" games to verified users aged 17 and older. This move is part of the company's ongoing efforts to enhance safety on the platform and prevent inappropriate content from reaching younger audiences. Condo games, which often include sexually suggestive content and adult interactions, have long been criticized by parents and safety advocates. Public Bathroom and Public Bedroom games, while sometimes seemingly harmless, have also raised concerns for containing inappropriate roleplay scenarios that could expose minors to unsuitable material. Roblox's new restrictions aim to ensure that only mature, verified users can access these types of content, reflecting the platform's commitment to creating a safer and more family-friendly environment while still allowing creative freedom for older players.

Roblox Faces $12.7 Billion Loss Due to Child Safety Concerns

August 16, 2025

Roblox Corporation has reportedly lost $12.7 billion in market value following mounting concerns over child safety on the platform. The company's stock plummeted after reports emerged about inadequate content moderation and failure to address community concerns about user safety, particularly regarding younger players.

Investors and shareholders have expressed frustration with the company's apparent disconnect from community feedback and slow response to safety issues that have been ongoing for months. The dramatic drop in market value reflects growing skepticism about the platform's ability to maintain advertiser confidence and regulatory approval while managing its massive user base of primarily young players.

Industry analysts suggest this financial impact could force Roblox to implement more aggressive safety measures, though critics argue the company should have prioritized these concerns before facing such significant market consequences.

Roblox Threatens Legal Action Against Creator Protecting Children

August 9, 2025

A prominent Roblox content creator has come forward with allegations that Roblox Corporation threatened legal action after they exposed child safety issues on the platform. The creator claims they were trying to protect minors from inappropriate content and predatory behavior when they received what they describe as intimidating legal correspondence from the company.

This incident has sparked widespread debate about Roblox's priorities and commitment to child safety versus protecting their corporate image. The creator, who has chosen to remain anonymous due to the legal threats, provided documentation suggesting that Roblox was more concerned about potential negative publicity than addressing the actual safety concerns raised.

Community members have rallied behind the creator, with many expressing disappointment that a company built on user-generated content would allegedly target those trying to make the platform safer for children.

New Content Moderation Tools Announced

November 22, 2024

Roblox has announced new AI-powered content moderation tools designed to better detect inappropriate content and behavior. The update includes enhanced chat filtering, improved reporting mechanisms, and real-time behavioral analysis systems that can identify potentially harmful interactions before they escalate.

However, many community members remain skeptical about the effectiveness of these tools given past issues with moderation consistency. Previous automated systems have been criticized for both over-moderating innocent content and failing to catch genuinely problematic material.

The company claims these new tools represent a significant investment in platform safety, though they have not disclosed specific details about implementation timelines or effectiveness metrics.

Developer News

Developer Exchange Program Updates

October 30, 2024

Roblox has updated its Developer Exchange (DevEx) program with improved payout rates and faster processing times. The changes aim to better support the creator economy on the platform, with some developers reporting up to 25% higher earnings under the new structure.

Top developers have reported positive reception to these changes, praising the reduced wait times and more transparent payout calculations. The updates also include clearer guidelines for what constitutes eligible content for monetization and streamlined application processes for new developers.

Though some still call for more transparency in the program's policies, the general consensus among the developer community has been favorable, with many viewing it as a step in the right direction for supporting content creators.
